Rwanda signs landmark deal with CAF

The Government of Rwanda through the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) which allows the image of Rwanda to appear on the uniforms of the teams that will participate in the “Africa Football League” tournament.

The partnership aims to develop African football and tourism through the new African Football League (AFL) that will feature the best football clubs in the continent on a global stage.

According to the RDB website, the agreement signed between Rwanda and CAF on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 allows “Visit Rwanda” to appear on the uniforms of the teams that will participate in the tournament, advertising at the stadiums that will be played and on television that will show these games.

The agreement also allows the Rwandan airline RwandAir to fly the teams that will participate in the tournament in the direction they are traveling to. The other thing is that the Africa Football League will cooperate with the Ministry of Sports of Rwanda and FERWAFA in the development of football.

The Secretary General of CAF, Véron Mosengo-Omba, said that they are happy to cooperate with Visit Rwanda as they come to promote African football.

He said, “This partnership with Visit Rwanda is a valuable thing for us. I am proud to announce this partnership with a country that puts effort into developing football in Africa.”

On the other hand, the CEO of RDB Francis Gatare, also announced that they are happy with this cooperation that will promote sports in Rwanda and Africa.

He said, “We are pleased to announce another partnership for the development and promotion of Sports in Rwanda. This is in line with our goals to contribute to the development of football talent in Africa and to use football to develop the African economy”.

The “Africa Football League” tournament starts on Thursday, October 20, 2023 in Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania in a match that will connect simba Sport club from Tanzania and Al Ahly from Egypt.

In general, this tournament will be attended by the first 8 teams in Africa, namely Al Ahly (Egypt), Wydad AC (Morocco), Espérance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Enyimba (Nigeria), Mamelodi Sundowns ( South Africa) Petro Luanda (Angola) and Simba Sport club from Tanzania.
