Ugandan policemen arrested over stealing from Rwandan

Police in Kabale have arrested two of their own over alleged aggravated robbery of RF 85,000, approximately Shs 260,000 from a Rwandan National at Katuna Border in Kabale District.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional Police spokesman, identifies the two suspects as Tusiime Gracious, 25 and Ekiyankundire Zechariah, 26 all attached to Kabale Police station, while the victim is Thomas Habanabakize 38, Rwandese by nationality, resident of Rwambu village, Rwanda.

It is alleged that on March 1, 2024, Habanabakize entered Uganda from Rwanda through Katuna to do shopping at the Border.

Upon arrival, he was intercepted by Ugandan police officers Tusiime and kiyankundire and was accused of possessing a fake currency.

He says, that the two police officers robbed the complainant of Rf 85,000 approximately (Shs 260,000) and deported the complainant back to Rwanda.

According to Maate, Habanabakize went and approached an immigration officer, who informed Ugandan authorities of the incident. It is then that the cops were arrested for aggravated robbery.
