Two Rwandan police officers completed their basic officer training at the Singapore Police Academy on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

The graduation ceremony for the 23rd cohort was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of the Singapore Police Force (SPF), Lian Ghim Hua.

The ceremony was also attended by the Rwandan Ambassador to Singapore, Jean De Dieu Uwihanganye, the First Secretary at the Rwandan Embassy, Mugiraneza Bertin, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Barthelemy Rugwizangoga, Commissioner of the Training Department of the Rwanda National Police.

Anicet Mutabaruka and Sylvain Ndayishimiye were among the five students who completed the nine-month training program, graduating with the rank of Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP).

The Rwandan and Singaporean police forces have a partnership agreement signed in August 2022, aimed at enhancing collaboration in capacity building as well as preventing and combating transnational crimes.

The agreement also includes strengthening cooperation in various training programs, exchanging expertise, sharing information, collaborating in crime-fighting activities, and ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of both countries.

There is also collaboration in tackling cybercrime, human trafficking, child exploitation via social media, terrorism, and other related offenses, as well as smuggling, illegal arms trade, and the proliferation of weapons and explosives.
