Rwandan peacekeepers provide free medical services to CAR citizens

Rwandan peacekeepers (RWABATT-1), part of the United Nations mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), offered free medical care to residents of Bambouti, a remote area in the east, on Friday, September 20.

The medical services provided addressed various health concerns, including malaria, malnutrition, sexually transmitted infections, intestinal parasites, gastroenteritis, dental issues, eye diseases, and skin conditions.

Ndiaye Goumba, the sub-prefect of Bambouti, commended the Rwandan peacekeepers for their crucial role in enhancing security and fostering a positive relationship with the local community, which enabled the delivery of free medical care.

Bambouti, situated in the Haut-Mbomou prefecture, has faced ongoing threats from armed groups like the Union for Peace in the Central African Republic (UPC) and Azande.

In May, Rwandan peacekeepers were deployed to the area to protect civilians, maintain security, and confront these armed groups.

Their efforts have improved freedom of movement and fostered a safer environment for the local community.
