Rwanda: 94% pass Advanced Level national exams
More than 102,261 students have passed Rwanda’s 2025/26 Advanced Level national examinations, with the overall pass rate reaching 94.33%.
The National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) said 108,406 candidates sat the examinations, from 108,732 who had registered.
Girls accounted for 55.05% of registered candidates.
Education Minister Joseph Nsengimana said the results reflected the efforts of students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders.
“We are glad that the results are good, because 94 per cent of the candidates passed,” he said.
He congratulated students who achieved their targets and urged those who were disappointed with their results not to give up.
“The journey of education is ongoing, and they still have a chance to put in more effort,” Mr Nsengimana said.
1,097 students penalised for cheating in national exams
Mr Nsengimana said 1,097 candidates in 27 districts were affected by examination irregularities, including cheating.
Those found to have violated examination rules or helped others to do so were punished under national examination regulations, he said.
The best-performing candidates will be recognised at a separate ceremony attended by their parents and school leaders.
More students score higher marks
NESA Director General Bernard Bahati said the results showed a significant increase in the number of students achieving higher marks.
The proportion scoring below 50% fell from 10.9% last year to 5.6% this year.
Meanwhile, the share scoring 70% or above increased.
In General Education, 56,330 candidates sat the examinations and 94% passed.
The pass rate was 96.3% among boys and 92.7% among girls.
The proportion scoring at least 90% also rose sharply, from 0.39% to 3.31%.
Science recorded a 93.87% pass rate, compared with 95.86% in Humanities and 93.61% in Languages.
Technical and professional education
In Technical Secondary Schools (TSS), 42,793 candidates sat the examinations, with 94.55% passing.
The pass rate was 95.46% among boys and 93.43% among girls.
In Professional Education, 9,283 candidates sat the examinations and 94.28% passed.
Teacher Training Colleges recorded a 99.88% pass rate, followed by the Associate Nursing Programme at 99.84%.
Accounting had the lowest pass rate among the listed professional programmes, at 88.59%.
