EAR Remera Calls on Families to Build God-Centered Homes
EAR Remera Parish has concluded its 2026 Family Conference after a week of teachings focused on strengthening Christian families. The conference was held from June 22 to June 28 under the theme: “What is your family built on?” (Matthew 7:24).
The gathering brought together Christians of all ages, including men, women, youth, children, and invited guests.
Throughout the week, participants received Bible-based teachings aimed at strengthening families through love, unity, respect, and responsible parenting.
Among the speakers were Rev. Dr. Canon Antoine Rutayisire, Evangelist Bibiche Rutunda, and The Rt. Rev. Dr. Jean Pierre Methode Rukundo, alongside other church leaders.
In his address, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Jean Pierre Methode Rukundo, Bishop of the EAR Karongi Diocese, emphasized the central role of the family in God’s plan.
He said: “Families are to be loved no matter what, because it is through them that God fulfills His purpose. Building on the Word of God gives us direction, helps us avoid confusion, provides a foundation for overcoming sin, and enables us to face forces that destroy families. Obeying God is the key to blessings.”
The Senior Pastor of EAR Remera Parish, Ven. Eric Niyigena, urged parents to be role models in their homes and communities by building families rooted in faith, love, and peace. He also warned against challenges such as conflict, divorce, and drug abuse, which continue to undermine family stability and development.
Mothers’ and Fathers’ Unions welcome new members
The closing day of the conference was marked by the admission of new members into the Mothers’ Union (MU) and Fathers’ Union (FU), who pledged to serve God and strengthen their families on the foundation of Scripture.
Mrs. Sylvia Mbabazi, Chairperson of the Mothers’ Union at EAR Remera, said the conference met its objectives.
She said: “The objectives we set were achieved. Many people attended teachings that bring families back to Christ, the true foundation. We encourage more women to join the Mothers’ Union so that we can continue strengthening families and raising children in a God-fearing way.”
James Kazubwenge, Chairman of the Fathers’ Union in the EAR Kigali Diocese, emphasized the importance of parental responsibility in building strong homes.
He said: “Change begins with the parent. A father should love his wife so that children grow up seeing love and unity. A home built on God’s principles becomes a place of peace, love, and a strong testimony.”
He also announced that 1,500,000 Rwandan francs were raised during the Family Week to support community-based health insurance for vulnerable residents of Kicukiro District, as part of the Church’s social outreach efforts.

New members share testimonies
New members described the conference as a transformative experience that strengthened their faith and commitment to Christ-centered families.
Ntaganda Evariste said: “I saw how the Fathers’ Union serves through evangelism and helping others, and I decided to join. I am committed to building my family and serving God based on the Word of God.”
Uwingabire Clémence, a new member of the Mothers’ Union, said she joined to grow spiritually and strengthen her home.
“I want to grow in faith and work with other women to build Christ-centered families and raise children who fear God,” she said.
Government commends church role
The Executive Administrator of Kicukiro District, Mr. Antoine Mutsinzi, praised EAR Remera for its role in strengthening families and promoting community development.
He said: “What is important is putting into practice what we are taught. We must show positive change in our families, workplaces, and communities. We appreciate EAR Remera’s contribution to community development and will continue to partner with the church.”
In his closing remarks, The Rt. Rev. Nathan Amooti Rusengo, Bishop of EAR Kigali Diocese, urged Christians to protect and build strong families, describing the family as the foundation of both the Church and society.
The conference concluded with a unified message that families grounded in the Word of God are essential to building a strong Church and a strong nation. Participants were encouraged to apply the teachings in their daily lives and promote homes marked by love, peace, and Christian values.
