Since Rwanda and Burundi decided to resume relations, on different occasions President Kagame has received delegations from his counterpart, and he has also sent them to Bujumbura, until in February 2023 he visited this country and held talks with President Ndayishimiye.
This visit was considered as an important step taken by the heads of the two countries after the bad relations between Rwanda and Burundi during the administration of Pierre Nkurunziza.
Relations between Rwanda and Burundi deteriorated in 2015 after Bujumbura accused Kigali of supporting groups fighting the Burundian government.
Kigali also accused Bujumbura of supporting groups keen on destabilizing Rwanda’s security.
