Meddy, Element and Okkama receive no award in Africa Entertainment Awards in USA
Rwandan celebrities; Meddy, Producer Element, Okkama, model Sonia Mugabo and video director Nkotanyi Fleury who had been nominated in USA’s Africa Entertainment Awards (AEAUSA) were not honored with any award when the winners announced.
The annual awards ceremony that held on November 11, marked its ninth edition honoring and promoting African entertainment industry.
AEAUSA plays a vital role in promoting the effective harnessing of Africa’s diverse and immense potential in its arts, music, and culture, and endeavor to support African artists in realizing their fullest potential globally.
This year’s edition featured five Rwandan celebrities who were nominated in different categories including, Best new artist, Best hits song producer, Best Video Director and others.
The Rwandan nominees have not fortunately picked any award, but the nomination itself ‘is a blessing and courage ‘ as Producer Element, known for his tag “Eleeh” had expressed following the nomination.
“I think this nomination has proven that Rwandan music is international and recognized. I am blessed to be nominated. It gives me courage to do more and it will help me grow.” Element told to local News paper when he heard of his nomination.
For instance, the Okkama’s category, Best New Artist which contested by other African promising singers including; Young Stunna, Pabi Cooper, Comidoh, Blaq Bones, Platforms, Eli Njuchi, Yzyno, Prince, Swanny and others was honored to Nigeria’s fast upcoming artist, Portable.
Rwandan video director, Nkotanyi Fleury, who contested for the Best Video Director, following his hit song videos such as Juno Kizigenza’s “Please me” and Ariel Way’s ” Demo”, missed the accolade and went again to Nigerian video Director, TG Omori, who directed the renowned Ruger’s hit “Girlfriend”.
Others Rwandan nominees in other respective categories also lost.
