President Kagame arrives in Oman for working visit

President Paul Kagame arrived in Salalah on Sept. 7, beginning a two-day official visit to Oman that marks the first official visit by a Rwandan president to the country.

Kagame was received by His Majesty the Sultan Haitham bin Tariq as he began the visit, which opened with an official welcome reception followed by bilateral talks between the two leaders and their respective delegations.

The talks are aimed at strengthening relations and exploring further areas of cooperation between Rwanda and Oman.

On the second day, Kagame will visit the Museum of the Frankincense Land before proceeding to the Razat Royal Farm.

The Museum of the Frankincense Land is located within the Al Baleed Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It features two main exhibition areas: the Heritage Hall, which focuses on the archaeological wealth, regional heritage and socioeconomic impact of the frankincense trade in the Dhofar region, and the Maritime Hall, which showcases Oman’s seafaring history.

The Razat Royal Farm, spanning more than 1,000 acres, is an agricultural production center for the Dhofar Governorate. It also serves as an agri-tourism and educational center open to visitors.

Sultan Haitham will host Kagame and his delegation at a state banquet dinner and will separately host a private luncheon in Kagame’s honor at Al-Mamurah Palace.

Rwanda and Oman share historical ties, and the visit provides an opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation. Several agreements and memorandums of understanding in various sectors are expected to be signed during the visit.
